Gourmet Coffee Pods

Our ever increasing caffeine addiction has made gourmet coffee pods in great demand. They come in a variety of flavors made for the different single serve coffee makers. But the clever marketing from single serve coffee maker companies such as Nespresso, Senseo etc. is the biggest driver for demand.

However, no one can dispute the ease that these gourmet coffee pods give us. What kind of convenience have they brought us?

A good espresso must be made with 45 ml of filtered water at a temperature of 20◦C and pushed through a tamp good coffee ground of 8 to 9 grams. Pressure of 65 kg is used per inch square for about 25 seconds.

Of course, there are many espresso machines that are fully automatic, and some that are even super automatic, but what are the costs?

The growth of single serve coffee makers and gourmet coffee podscoffee pod have been fueled by the reasonable prices and ease of availability.

However, due to the pricing, something “not so good” happened – piracy flourished! They are not people like Jack Sparrow from the Black Pearl but traders who ignored the trademark regulations by copying and selling products cheap.

Senseo has taken coffee world by storm, especially with the idea to make your own gourmet pods. People had many explanations for telling the reason they want to “modify” their pods or pads.

Many said they had leftover coffee from their previous machine and wanted to make their own coffee pods for that reason, others do not like the choice of flavors available from the manufacturer of the equipment (they may not have heard about the K-Cup?), some like free trade coffee, etc.

The biggest reason listed by everyone is the expensive pricing of these gourmet coffee pods. Yes, they are expensive in price, but referencing the extensive and complicated process for a superior espresso and how it was all squashed into one pod so the only thing required is to press the button, do you think it’s a fair price?

Just visualize preparing your Senseo or Melitta pods, what are the end results? Making a pirated pod will never have the same taste as the original.

When you have made your own gourmet coffee pods, it will make the machines guarantee invalid and no doubt there will be problems such as coffee grains caught in the machine, coffee grains stuck in the bottom of the pod or pad holder, and in some instances, the machines have exploded.

Because I do not agree with the process of making your own pod, I won’t illustrate how to do it, but will say some of the ways not to try because it can destroy the machine completely.

Pouring coffee grounds in the pod is a resounding “no.” The one thing that will occur is machine will explode.

Then, there is creating gourmet coffee pods with two filters then putting it in the holder. The result will be the coffee grounds will float as the water enters the holder and will not work. It will block the bottom of the holder when the grounds stop floating.

Using pods from other manufacturers will not work as they are designed by the engineers specifically for their product.

How about using the correct pods, but replacing the coffee grounds inside. It may sound easy, until it reaches the point of re-sealing it. So no, you will not find a cup of coffee in this way.

Drinking coffee is an experience, and we need to think before buying any equipment due to the expensive costs is my advice. Do a thorough research before you buy.
